Today Is The Day

It's.  Finally.  Here.  The day of Get Your Glam On has arrived!!!  Starla and I and all the girls have put so much hard work into this fashion show.  Gail has been a trooper when it comes to our need to have someone helping the girls with wardrobe.  Roger has set up the sound system so the girls can walk to the NewsBoys as they come down the runway.  There are just a few finishing touches to be done.  The excitement has my tummy doing butterflies and my throat hearts.  Wish us luck, pray for us, as we seek to educate our community about Ruth's Room and ultimately, bring glory to GOD.

Glam is Fast Approaching

We are fast approaching the fashion show-it's on March 6 at 2 pm-so we have shifted into overdrive to get things done.  Today we had most of our models there to try on outfits and photograph them.  Once we have the photographs, we will place them on a board to help us determine the order.  It was a lot of fun and as we put together outfits and see the girls in them we get more excited.  We now have the following young ladies as models: Genesis, Evelyn, Callie, Makala, Molly, and Lexie.  Each of them is unique and has their own sense of style.  It's been interesting to see what works on which girl and how it is all coming together.  It is starting to feel like something big and we joked about Project Runway and America's Next Top Model.  Here is some of what today looked like.

Now for the Latest Update

It has been quite a while since I posted here, but it's time to get things moving again.  Ruth's Room is coming up on its 3rd year of providing free clothing and other necessities to the people of Humboldt County.  We were interviewed today as part of the Spirit ofthe Northcoast segment on KIEM.  (That is the local NBC affiliate here in Humboldt County.)  Here we are in all our glory....hahaha.....To GOD be the glory!

We will also be having our first fashion show, Ruth's Room Fashion Show: GET YOUR GLAM ON.  The event will showcase some of the great finds that have been discovered in the bags and boxes that come through the doors of Ruth's Room.  Stay tuned for future updates.

Below are a few pictures of some of the volunteers at RR.

what is this...Ruth's Room?"

Ruth's Room was started by Starla Teasley to answer the need for clothing and household goods for a community that has seen a financial decline in the past decade. Several area lumber mills have closed and with those closures other industries were impacted as well. The congregation of Rio Dell Baptist agreed with Starla and generously provides space to house all the clothing and supplies. Ruth's Room is open Tuesdays from 10 am through 1 pm and offers its services without any income verification. All clothing and household items are offered absolutely free. We like to say that donations are accepted but are NOT required.

Stay tuned for pics and upcoming excitement from the staff and volunteers of Ruth's Room!
